Final Page of 2015

Brad Paisley said,
"Tomorrow is the first blank page of 365 a page book. Write a good one."

Now is the time to list out all of those important resolutions for 2016. Beyond the usual suspects, you know -- shedding all that fluff, saving more money, and finding the time to do some yoga -- how about trying a few style-specific resolutions? We all know the new year brings in big sales, who doesn't love sales? I know I do! But, you can't forget the same traditional resolution, saving money. Instead of heading into the new year broke, why not shop your own closet?

We all know it's much easier shopping online or browsing in store for a new outfit instead of looking through all of those hidden treasures your closet holds. I'm quite embarrassed to say I'm one of those people. I'm quick to buy a new shirt or dress before browsing through my closet. Honestly, my closet holds so much that I don't even open the door, what I wear the most hangs on a shelf above my TV. I still have clothing from 2012 with price tags still hanging. To bring in the new year, how about all of us fashion lovers out there take a deep dive into our closet? We'll all be pleasantly surprised with what that madness might bring.

Wait... don't get discouraged, you CAN still shop! If you're looking for a new piece of clothing, invest in a classic piece. Don't go for that trendy aztec print sweater, go for something dark, you can live in that sweater forever. Still wanting to shop? Throw out those old bras that have wires poking out through the side, we all know it's a hard thing to do, especially letting go of your favorite black bra, but invest in a new, comfortable and quality collection of undergarments. No need to keep those loose threads, let 'em go. Lastly, let go of the dark vibe that we all love so much. Bring some color into the new year. It's so easy wearing that same black dress or your oversized t-shirt, but spice up your attire with some colors, don't forget spring will be here soon (or at least March will be).

Take on this New Year with quite a few risks -- even if that means trying those colors you've never touched before in your eyeshadow palette. Maintain a healthy skincare regimen. Get organized. Wear more color. Shop your own closet. And catch those great sales!

P.S, I heard Spence and Lane has a pre-order for Southern Doe long sleeve t-shirts! Get rid of that old, worn out t-shirt and get a new one before they sale out!

Chapter 12 of 12

I hope all of you ate to your heart’s desire, spent a timeless amount of time with your family and friends, and gave thanks for what you’ve been blessed with! The holiday cheer is in the air! It’s time to start counting down the days to Christmas!

The last three months of the year have always been my favorite. There is a holiday each month! Who doesn't enjoy holidays? December and October have to be my favorite though because of all the candy, gifts, scary movies and christmas movies! I must of forgot to mention I love watching movies.. well know you know but that's not all! This holiday season I want to share a few things you can do with your family, children, friends, or that special someone..

1. Watch Christmas movies -- my favorite Christmas movie is: The Christmas Shoes

2. Decorate the house -- decorating for the holidays is always fun but what's a better way to get into the holiday spirit than doing it together and making the house fun and cute!

3. Sing Christmas carols -- most people enjoy music and singing so why not sing together! It's a good way to spend quality time with each other and to make memories!

4. Be festive, have an ugly Christmas sweater contest -- We did this one year, at school, in FCCLA and the winner got a prize!

5. Bake cookies or other sweets -- because everyone deserves something sweet once in a while so baking together creates memories together and everyone will enjoy!

We hope everyone haves a fun safe holiday season!

Grounded in Gratitude

Count your blessings and you'll find even a "bad" day is filled witch precious gifts.

Gratitude. The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. With the holiday's quickly approaching, remember to appreciate the cherished moments with your loved ones. It isn't always about the food or the gifts, and especially not the sales. It's the appreciation you show and kindness in return. Meister Eckhart once said, "If the only prayer you ever say in your life is 'thank you,' that would suffice.

'Tis The Season To Get A Gift From Spence and Lane

Secrets to styling.

There aren’t many other pieces of clothing or extra accessories that come close to the many benefits scarves have to offer. Scarves are a quintessential fashion accessory. They’ll keep you warm, make you look incredibly stylish, and can make your entire outfit pop. The best thing yet? Scarves are a very versatile piece and allows for much play! Perhaps you don’t have but a few, but that’s okay! As a woman (or man), you can conquer any type of outfit with just a few or even that one, with the different styles they have to offer. There isn't just one type of scarves, there are many. You have your neutral scarves, colorful scarves, glam scarves, statement scarves, snug scarves, and even blanket scarves. Continue reading if you would like to see how versatile and essential scarves actually are.

Types of Scarves:

Statement Scarf: Any scarf can be transformed into a statement piece, from one bright, funky color to an exquisite fabric. Aside from keeping you warm, its main function is to spice up a look and make it look well thought out and put together. A statement scarf can transform any outfit from basic to a chic and crafted masterpiece. It’s an enliven piece, make it funky and bold, anything that pull togethers a crafted outfit when it’s cold!

Fringe Scarf: Fringe is a huge hit in the fall, it’s one of the seasons biggest trends. A fringe scarf can create a variety of looks, it’s such a versatile piece. Are you going for that boho look or are you looking for something more contemporary, like a country inspired look?

Neutral Scarf: Like to mix and match pieces in your wardrobe? Well, a neutral colored scarf is something you can mix and match with everything in your closet with any look. Don’t have a plain scarf? It’s definitely a piece you want to get your hands on, I’ll assure you it’ll blend with any outfit you’re trying to create.

Animal Print Scarf: Leopard/Cheetah print is a huge trend, especially for fall and winter. It’s a staple print, but for a scarf? Throw one on and add that sassy, wild, chic look to your outfit!

Snug Scarf: As winter is slowly approaching, a snug scarf is great to keep you warm! Viscose, cashmere, or pashmina are great fabrics to keep you warm and cozy as winter takes its toll!

Blanket Scarf: Put the word “blanket” in front of any article of clothing and you know it’s made for the perfect cozy season. Despite it being the perfect essential, blanket scarves can be a puzzling accessory. There’s a lot of fabric that makes it easy to look at but difficult to embrace. Like other scarves, they are easily versatile!

Styling Scarves:In this section, there will be tips and pictures on how to style and ways to wear your infinity and blanket scarves. Stay tuned!

Infinity Scarves: There are many ways to style an infinity scarf, below are six ways to wear your scarf:

Style One: Basic Scarf.Simply put your infinity scarf around your neck, like so.

Style Two: Doubled Scarf.

Style Three: Scarf with High Neck.

Style Four/Five: Scarf with Hood/Doubled Scarf With Hood (same as the doubled hood, but without styling it as a doubled scarf).

Style Six: Shrug.

Shape as necessary.

Blanket Scarves: Like previously stated, putting the word "blanket" in front of any article of clothing will mean it's oversized and cozy! There's a lot of fabric, hence the word blanket, but just because there is so much material may make it seem easy to look at, but honestly, the first time I put on my blanket scarf, it was difficult to embrace. Below are a few ways to style/wear your "blanket" scarves.

Style One: Own it. Wear your scarf looped around your neck.

How To:
Step One: Start with your blanket scarf completely open and unfolded.
Step Two: Fold your blanket scarf diagonally, creating a triangle.
Step Three: Take two corners of the triangle and wrap it around to your back side
Step Four: Shape and tuck as necessary

Here is Kelsey with the finished look of owning your blanket scarf.

Style Two: Styling Poncho. Drape your blanket scarf around your shoulders.

How To:
Step One: Fold your blanket scarf in half, creating a rectangle. Throw it around your shoulders and bunch it up at the top edge.Step Two: Bring one side around and tuck it snugly.Step Three: Bring the other side around and tuck it snugly.Step Four: Shape and tuck as necessary, until you have a nice triangular shape in the front.

Poncho Style.

Style Three: Cardigan Style (put it around your back and shoulders)

How To:
Step One: Start with your blanket scarf completely open and unfolded.
Step Two: Fold your blanket scarf in half diagonally, creating a triangle
Step Three: Wrap the long edge around your shoulders. Adjust as you please. You can leave it open or you can add a belt.

Cardigan Style.

Style Four: Casually Hanging.

How To:
Step One: Put your blanket scarf around your neck, leave the ends hanging down
Step Two: *Optional, belt it.

Scarves are one of the accessories you cannot be without. If you’re one who likes dressing up outfits with accessories, scarves are a great enhancement to your wardrobe. It isn’t just an accessory that adds glam, it’s beneficial for those cold fall and winter days.

Special thanks to Kelsey for modeling both infinity and blanket scarf.

Chapter 10 of 12

Deals to Steal

In today's post we will be talking about the prices and similarities of different boutiques compared to Spence and Lane'sSpence and Lane is a small boutique which is why we're trying to get the word out about such a great boutique with clothing for all ages and most of all, affordable prices. Over the past few years boutiques began getting bigger and bigger (perhaps social media plays a big role in that) well duh! Scrolling through other boutiques websites I see similar items that Spence and Lane has in stock but the question is which is cheaper, since it's pretty much the same item? We've took some research and put it to the test. Results are in! You guessed it! Spence and Lane is cheaper compared to most boutiques (don't complain) Now time to steal the real deal.

Similar Style Different Price:
Doing quite a bit of research through the booming boutiques, like Shop The Mint, Shop Impressions, Entourage Clothing & Gifts, and Jane Divine we seen similar items and even identical ones. We thought we should share this with our readers, be known that we aren't bashing the other companies, we are just giving you a few insights on great deals and helping you save money since the holiday season is approaching. Unlike the boutiques listed, Spence and Lane isn't out there, just yet. They're still in the process of blooming, unlike the ones listed. Being a newer boutique gives us more of a reason to write this "Deals to Steal" blog.

Item one: Do you like a cute plaid tunic that features a hint of flare with high side-slits, button down front, button cuffs and dual front pockets? Well, I think you might like this a little bit better, we’ve found this tunic on Jane Divine and Spence and Lane, but what’s even better than finding it on Spence and Lane? That it is $6.95 cheaper than it is on Jane Divine. For all you plaid and leggings lovers, this is your go to tunic to make that outfit pop! Think we're kidding? Check out the "Honey I'm Good Plaid Tunic" on Jane Divine, but before you make your purchase, come back and click this link to get a better deal!

Item two:What’s your go to style for this fall season? Is it your inner Boho look? With this easy-to-wear tunic or dress, depending on your height, it is perfect for styling with a pair of leggings and riding boots!  The dresses/tunics aren't identical as the one on Spence and Lane, but they are quite a bit similar. The only difference? The price! That's right! Get the Ah-love Green dress for about $2.00 cheaper at Spence and Lane, unless you were browsing on Shop the Mint, then you'll save $6.00.

Similarities

Item three: This tie-dye dress is TO-DYE for! It is perfect for any casual occasion, even season! Pair it with some booties or converse and you’ll have an #OOTD. The best thing yet? It’s $2.00 cheaper on Spence and Lane and offers a softer toucher of color! The sleeves help with the coolness of the fair air. It’s perfect paired with riding boots and some cuffs! Take your pick because you’ll love this dress to the moon and back! Grab it now, before it’s too late!

Item four: Who doesn’t love a kimono? They are so versatile! You can dress them up or dress them! Wear them with a dress or wear them with shirts/cami and a pair of jeans. They are even long enough to wear with leggings! This Boho Kimono is perfect for fall! This kimono features pom fringe hemmed sleeves, and lightweight sheer fabric! (I must say, I’ll have to grab it before it goes out of stock!) It's not much of a difference, but if you're like us, .95 cents can be put towards another item of choice!

Item five: Are you one for a retro-inspired look? Grab this plaid tunic and a denim shirt! You’ll have a chic outfit in no time! This item is so versatile that you can wear it throughout the year! It’s perfect paired with a cardigan, denim jacket, and booties!Don't be a sucker for one, grab it in cranberry too!

Item Six: Fringe and suede is one of the biggest trends this fall! With that being said who wouldn’t love a pair of fringe suede shorts for the warmer days? I would love to have a pair! If you’re thinking about buying a pair of fringe shorts make sure you check each boutique to find the best price because you know you’ll need that money to buy something else. The greatest deal I found on fringe shorts would be on Spence and Lane (take a look!)

Item Seven: Stripes are big this season! A good way to wear stripes is to have a striped cardigan! Cardigans in general are a big hit and makes it easy to wear layers of clothing! If you're looking for a simple, striped white and black, elbow patched cardigan and you found one for a higher price than you're willing to pay then check out this black and white striped cardigan on Spence and Lane! If that's not the color you're looking for they also have a two other colors in the same style, look at the side notes below!

Item Eight: What’s better than having a pocket-tee? Having a pocket dress! That’s right, they are so simple and cute! This suede dress with elbow patches and a pocket would be a big hit for this fall! You can dress it up or dress it down. The colors are subtle for cooler weather! If you hate wearing jeans even when it’s cold you can always get a long sleeve dress and pair it with some boots!Grab it before it’s too late on Spence and Lane (much cheaper than shoptiques.. I mean who doesn’t want to save 12.00 dollars?!)

Until next time...
